Progress in Sustainable Practices

We’ve started on our journey with sustainable practices, but there is and will always be room for improvement. Below outlines what we are currently doing and what we have in mind as we continue on.

We currently use a Made-to-Order model

Using these models allows us to avoid ordering unnecessarily large amounts of fabric (many fabric mills require minimum orders in the 1000s of yards to be cost effective). It also means we don’t need to hold tons of inventory that may not sell.

Made-to-order means we only make a piece when an order is placed. Each piece that is ordered is made for an individual’s personal measurements. This ensures an awesome fit and a high quality garment that can be used for years to come.

  • Building Circularity, Upcycling, and Recycling Into Our Model

One of the exciting things we’ve learned about is the need for Circularity in the fashion industry. We feel it is important to keep the pieces we create in a Mend, Reuse, Recycle/Upcycle loop! Building Circularity into our model provides an alternative to throwing your pieces away (or other routes that may lead to a landfill).

This is still a work in progress, but we are establishing a process where you can send your loved Audyssy Design clothing back to us. Once we receive your piece(s), we will upcycle/repair/clean and resell the item.

If you’re interested in purchasing second hand, sample, or mended pieces at a reduced price, head over to the ‘Shop Our Creations’ page and select ‘Audyssy Restored’.

Coming Soon: When your piece has been loved and lived it’s life, head over to the ‘Audyssy Restored’ page to start the process of giving it new life. Every piece you send back to us will get you a voucher that you can use on a future purchase.

Each creation is built In-House and is Handmade by our Founder.

Currently, we keep the entire build of our garments and accessories in our home studio in Houston, Texas. Keeping this part of the process in our control allows us to start off on the right foot; if and when our team grows, healthy wages, professional development, and a safe working environment will already be built in.

    Fabrics

When we first started out, we came in with previously owned fabrics, gifted fabrics, and made unfortunate choices when making purchases. Some of these fabrics have unknown fiber content, and so we have used burn testing to get an idea of what these particular fabrics are made of.

We’ve been making much better choices and want to start fresh, but don’t want to throw these other fabrics away. Many of these fabrics have been left alone for years, creating a strange Deadstock situation. We plan on using up these fabrics to make garments that can stick around and be useful for many years. It is for this reason that you’ll see some pieces on our website that do not use eco-friendly fabrics; know that these pieces are still built to last with proper care. The intention is to replace these fabrics with more sustainable fabrics as they deplete and to keep them a part of our circularity intiative.

Since 2020, we have switched to natural fibers (silk, cotton, organic cotton, linen, etc.) and have been actively looking for recycled materials. We continue to search, make connections, and learn about ways to keep costs reasonable while improving our fabric choices. With each new mini series, we expect that our fiber choices and fabrics will align more with what we’re shooting for .

    Minimizing Waste & Reusing Scraps

Each new piece comes with new patterns that have to be created. As we create these patterns, we keep in mind how patterns would need to be placed on the fabric for cutting, how much waste might be left over, and if the waste created would be practical for use in other projects. We use our leftover fabrics to create hair accessories, other garments, or in other little craft projects (tote bags, string, etc.).

*In the Works: The random scraps that we are not able to use are collected and ready for recycling and repurposing through an eco friendly third party.

    Eco-friendly Initiatives

We are proud to be part of these alliances and look forward to being a part of more. You can check out our cool badges at the bottom of the page!

-NoIssue and EcoEnclose: All of our packaging is recyclable, made from recycled material, and uses soy-based inks.

-Ecologi: We strive to offset our carbon footprint (and maybe even be carbon positive!) by planting trees monthly and supporting other climate projects. To see more and check out our mini-forest click here
