The Aila Teardrop Earring
The Aila Teardop Italian Lucite Earring is gorgeous. These teardrop earrings are made using custom vintage lucite teardrops (from the 1980s) that have stunning marbling of soft pastel greens, grays, silvers, and creams. We had the chance to get them from a fellow small business in Connecticut who recovered them. The coloration on these teardrops are not painted on; while the lucite was melted, an Italian custom manufacturer injected several colors into the mix at different times. This allowed for the beautiful swirling of colors that you can see throughout the bead, even when the bead is cut in half. Each bead looks like it has its own internal painting.
Our jewelry is built by hand in our home studio once you order it- there is no inventory hanging around here! The finished piece comes in a gift box. Please allow 1-2 days for us to create your jewelry.
You can get her made in the following settings:
- 14K Gold Filled: Each component of this earring is 14k Gold Filled, including the comfort clutch earring backs (with plastic surrounding the gold-filled clutch). There is a lot out there on gold filled vs. vermeil vs. gold plated. After much research and speaking with those in the industry, gold-filled seemed to come out on top consistently. Gold filled jewelry is a bit more expensive due to the way in which it is made (a core metal is sandwiched between layers of gold alloy) and the fact that it has more real gold. This higher percentage of gold and it's manufacturing process allows gold-filled jewelry to have a much longer lifespan than vermeil or gold-plated jewelry, especially when they are well taken care of.
or
- 925 Sterling Silver: Each component of the earring is made with 925 Sterling Silver, including the comfort clutch earring backs (with plastic surrounding the sterling silver clutch).
The Aila Teardrop Earring Details:
- 14K Gold Filled earring components or 925 Sterling Silver earring components
- Measures 2.75 inches from top of stud to bottom of teardrop
- Earring is a 6 mm stud with a flush cubic zirconia clear stone
- Teardrops are dreamy mixtures of soft pastel greens, grays, silvers, and creams
- Earring backs are comfort clutch with a plastic disc around for support
Care:
For both Gold Filled and Sterling Silver, take care to keep your jewelry out of water. Take off before baths/showers, swimming, and if they get wet, be sure to dry them! Though they may be okay getting wet, keeping them dry and clean will allow for a much longer lifespan.
